ABOUT ME
Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians,
Welcome to Fifth Grade @ Barnwell! I am Mrs. Meghan Borin and I am extremely excited about the upcoming school year. I look forward to meeting each and every one of you! This year is going to be a wonderful adventure!
I am originally from Hastings, Michigan, which is a quaint little town outside of Grand Rapids. I became a southerner right after college and am proud to call Marietta, Georgia (closer to downtown historic Roswell) my home. My husband Antonio and I have been married for 12 years (this July). We have a 4 year old daughter named Zeline and a 2 year old boy named Luca. I love to draw, be creative, run, hike, camp & canoe...anything outdoors!
This upcoming school year marks my 15th year as an educator. I have spent part of my career working with second language learners as a classroom teacher and team leader, an ESOL instructor, and as the school's Literacy Coach. I have a Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an Endorsement in ESOL from the American College of Education. I received my undergraduate in Education with three minors in Math, Science, and Art from Western Michigan University. I have a tremendous love for education and a passion for teaching children.
I am thrilled to continue my career in the classroom at Barnwell for the upcoming school year...go 5th grade BEARS!
PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION
I truly love children and their capacity and tenacity for learning. I believe that ALL children can be successful when provided with opportunities to explore, manipulate, inquire, and reflect. I believe students can learn to love learning through freedom of expression and thought. I believe teachers must maintain high expectations and facilitate learning by encouraging students to set goals and track their own progress. I believe that education is an empowering life-long process and I model my belief by continuing to educate myself and reflect upon it with my students. My ultimate goal is to help to instill confidence and personal pride in order for students to become successful, compassionate, and positive members of their community.
